There are so many great features offered at John Shaw including an all-weather floodlit indoor arena with excellent spectator area so parents can stay and watch their child take a riding lesson in comfort plus a fabulous jumping paddock where competition standard jumps are located. Half Term Horse Camp

The camp runs from 10am to 2pm and includes activities such as riding, jumping and horse care, while the camp costs £45.00 per session. Why not save money by booking a session online and don't forget to bring a packed lunch as refreshments are not provided.

Hacks

Hacking here is great fun and also provides access to the Trans Pennine Trail.Most people are welcome to join a hack with rides being accompanied but riders must have ridden indoors as a minimum requirement. Complete beginners who have not previously ridden would not be able to join in a hack. Riders may also borrow a riding hat if they wish to do so .

Jumping Clinics

Jumping Clinics are held on Fridays and as John Shaw has a wealth of International Jumping experience learning here seems like a great idea! Competition jumps are used during training sessions therefore riders must have been "practise jumping" at the school in order to join in these sessions.

Pony Parties

Children's pony parties are popular here and include a riding lesson in the all-weather school, while use of the gallery to carry on your party is facilitated. Those wishing to book a party should contact the school in order to discuss exactly what elements they require to be included in the party. Each party guest is charged at £15.00 each.

Livery Services

John Shaw's is ABRS approved plus offers a full livery service priding themselves on offering care for your horses and ponies that is of a high quality and standard. Tack rooms are provided uniquely for livery customers along with all year grazing, regular worming, farrier visits and 24 hour supervision.

Glen Jakes was established back in 1990 and is a family run business that prides itself on offering a welcoming and relaxed environment for riders of all abilities to enjoy. The school opens seven days a week therefore riders will find a suitable time that fits in with their families schedule easily. Glen Jakes caters for very young children through to adults making this a real family friendly place, while their instructors are all qualified ensuring quality lessons that are also fun too.

Own your Own Pony Courses

Glen Jakes run these courses during the school holidays, while participants must be proficient in horse management if they are to join in the course. Riders get to select a pony they wish to look after for the day and will improve their pony care skills by doing so. This type of course stands a child in good stead for the day they are lucky enough to own their own pony.

Walkouts and Hacks

Walkouts are ideal for beginners as they are an assisted ride with the reins being led so giving the new rider confidence along with the feeling of safety and security. Walkouts cater for those age four years and over, while some walkouts also cater for those with learning disabilities.

Hacks are for riders with a little more experience under their belts with one hour and two hour hacks offered. Hacks help riders hone their riding skills plus help them with road awareness too. Riding hats are included in the price of a hack, while hats and equipment are also available to buy.

Birthday Parties

Birthday parties here are amazing offering a fabulous celebratory day out for all the family. One or two hour parties may be booked and include a ride, games plus a whole host of fun activities. Themed Invitations are available from the school to send to your party guests in the guise of a paper scroll that features ornamental ribbon fastening plus the offer of a free lesson.

  • Saturday and Sunday a half hour lesson costs £11.00 to £17.00

  • One hour private lesson costs £31.50

Carrington Riding Centre is located just south west of Manchester offering four hundred and fifty acres of beautiful countryside for riders to enjoy. Carrington is easily accessed via the M60 motorway that runs close by the centre with drivers leaving the motorway by the junction 8 exit, while travelling to the school by bus is also facilitated. Carrington boasts the approval of the local authority, the Pony Club Centre, the British Horse Society and the Association of British Riding Schools.

Facilities offered here are superb and include three all-weather floodlit ménages, Racewood dressage simulator, Viewing area and café, fully trained ponies and school holiday activities. Carrington also offer private riding lessons, semi private riding lessons and group lessons for riders to choose from, while other notable services and events include:

Pony Parties

Pony parties are popular at Carrington as all children are promised a riding lesson in with the party fun plus grooming tips and scrumptious snacks to enjoy too. Those who prefer may cater for their own party just let Carrington know what it is you are after as they endeavour to tailor parties to each individual's needs. A minimum of six guests is required in order to book a party. As an alternative why not book a Shetland pony party. Kids can take a ride on the ponies even if they have not ridden previously as the ponies are led by an adult making it safe and fun.

Full Livery Service

There are two livery packages to choose from at Carrington either full livery or an add-on schooling package. Whichever you select customers can be sure of a secure caring atmosphere in which their pony will be looked after to a very high standard. Carrington has a limit to how many horses they take on ensuring all services can be provided adequately.

Riding Simulator

As we mentioned Carrington are proud to offer the Racewood Riding Simulator which is an amazing tool by which riders of all ages and abilities can improve their skills. The simulator is the size of a real life horse and can accommodate a range of saddles, replicate dressage movements, has six paces and can react to hand, leg and seat pressure. The simulator works in conjunction with an interactive computer screen giving the impression riders are actually riding along the road.  Imagine riding without fear of being unseated as you hone your balancing skills, it's amazing!

Courses

Carrington offer a number of courses where qualifications can be gained such as BHS Horse Knowledge Care and Riding stages One and Two, Riding and Road Safety, ABRS Equitation Tests plus British Riding Club and Take Back the Reins Courses. Ryders Farm is located on Manchester Road in Bolton just six miles from the centre of Manchester itself. Established in 1993 the centre boasts over fifty horses and ponies along with a sixty acre park, a fabulous indoor school where lessons can be taught all year round whatever the climate and floodlit outdoor arena with advanced jumping course, while Ryders teaches horsemanship to BHSAI standard.

Those who wish to study for a qualification will be glad to know that Ryders in conjunction with Salford City College offer the practical side of Equine Study Courses. Taster Sessions

Taster Sessions are for those who wish to sample what it is to be around ponies plus what it's like to ride a pony. The session includes a riding demonstration, a trial ride on a pony plus how to decipher jargon used when talking about horses and riding. Taster sessions are also valuable for newcomers to Ryders as they enable their tutors to ascertain at what level new riders skills lie.

Tiny Tot Sessions

Half hour tiny tot sessions that introduce tots to riding in a gentle manner (plus parents or carers can join in too) are a great way to introduce the little ones to horse riding. These half hour sessions teach basic skills, what various instructions mean and the names of tack. Carers are encouraged to join in as this puts little ones at ease and gives them confidence knowing that mum dad or whoever are present.

Group and Private Lessons

Hour long group lessons not only provide companionship for riders who would rather work in a group than alone but also are a great way for kids to make friends and gain confidence. This fabulous equestrian centre is located ideally for those who live in either Manchester or Sheffield and welcomes all comers (including small children) when it comes to learning how to ride. Established in 1962 the centre boasts a range of ponies to suit all needs and sizes, while the centre also features its own Shetland pony that is a firm favourite of visiting children.

Facilities provided here include an amazing outdoor floodlit ménage, show jumping field, bridleways, and equestrian shop plus a thirty minute farm ride that takes riders around a working farm. Further activities include:

Kids Holiday Activities

Holiday activities provided during school holiday times include Own a Pony day where kids can find out what it's like to own a pony and care for him. Its great fun and kids will gain a lot of knowledge when joining in one of these days. Themed versions of these days are also offered where kids can dress up in any way they like for the day.

Three hour tots fun sessions for the under eights are also offered during the holidays along with riding experience sessions that incorporate caring for your horse activities such as grooming in with the package.

Pony Parties

One and half hour and two hour pony parties are available to book at Ladybooth and offer a fun day for all participants. Features include gymkhanas, musical games and room hire, while charges are set at £15.00 per child attending a one and half hour party or £20.00 for a two hour party.

As far as children are concerned Ladybooth caters for kids in a big way offering all kinds of activities to keep the little ones happy. Lessons start from the age of six, while for younger kids there is the Tots Toddle Mini Trek where children ride small ponies to gain experience. Further lessons offered include

Mill Farm Riding School is located six miles from Manchester in Hazel Grove Stockport. Mill Farm offer a range of lessons including those to suit young children from age four and up. Private and group lessons are available for all with classes assigned according to ability. Pony days are run during the school holidays with children enjoying a day filled with fun and surprises.  Kids will learn how to care for their ponies, take part in show jumping, dressage and cross country activities too.

Gala Days

Gala days are a day of competition where kids take part in a range of riding tasks in order to win either a rosette or a trophy. Gala Days run from 9.30am to 3.30pm but do not include lunch.

Pony Club Camp

Pony Club Camp is a real camping trip that also involves horse based activities such as riding lessons, dressage, show jumping, stable management, along with the opportunity to look after your horse for three whole days. The trip also includes fun entertainment such as karaoke sessions and games while sitting under clear skies in the outdoors around a blazing fire.

Holiday Activity Fun Days

There is so much to do on one of these organised fun days that children will want to return again and again.
